LCSW Requirements in Georgia

Social workers must practice under clinical supervision for three years before applying for a clinical license in Georgia. The first two years of work experience must be under direction.  Social workers who go on to receive doctoral degrees in a social work specialty or related field may count a doctoral level clinical internship as one year of experience.

Over the course of the supervised practice, a social worker must have 120 supervision hours, no more than 50% of which may be group supervision and at least 50% must be provided by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who meets requirements to be a duly qualified supervisor.

Both supervisor and supervisee are required to maintain a record of the date, duration, type and a brief summary of the significant activity for each supervision session to be submitted to the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists upon request.
